Candied Bacon
September 28th, 2009
Hey There Folks! Well as promised Rus & I declared this past weekend 'Baconpalooza' by trying some recipes that we found pretty interesting. So I threw my hat in the ring by making Candied Bacon. This four ingredient recipe takes your ordinary bacon to a whole new level. And it is so easy too!
First the ingredients....
- 1/2c Real Maple Syrup (Grade B)
- Finely Ground Black Pepper
First preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. While your oven is preheating whisk the maple syrup and brown mustard together in a small bowl. Then line your rimmed cookie sheet with foil. If you are not a fan of grease fires or messy clean ups then I strongly recommend the rimmed cookie sheet and lining it. Once you have done that place a baking rack onto the cookie sheet and arrange your bacon across the rack. Do not allow them to overlap or touch.
Now cooking bacon in an oven is an old restaurant trick. You can turn out bacon more quickly from your oven then you ever could from your stove top. Also, most stove tops have only 4 burners making them prime real estate. Leave them available for other dishes that really need the stove top.
So now brush the maple syrup mixture liberally onto each piece of bacon. Once that is done place into the oven for 12-15min. Turn the bacon over and apply the maple syrup mixture on the bacon. Then return it to the oven for another 5-10min, or until it reaches your desired crispness.
Remove the cookie sheet very carefully from the oven as it will have collected the bacon drippings. Then sprinkle the black pepper over the hot bacon and allow to rest for 5min. Plate and enjoy!
Now some of you reading this will say "This is a lot of work for bacon." Trust me...it is worth the effort. Clearly this would be great with breakfast but don't stop there. Place it on your favorite burger or a turkey club. You will be happy you did.
